Cradle of Portugality and Historical Capital of the Nation, Guimarães is now a modern, cosmopolitan, creative and vibrant city. In recent years, Guimarães achieved a remarkable reputation result of various achievements, as in the past, resulted in successful brands: received the title of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 2001, was European Capital of Culture in 2012 and European City of Sport in 2013.
Following “Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture”, the city is experiencing a particularly important moment in its history. A moment that results from a strong focus on cultural promotion and a large infrastructure investment that allowed Guimarães equip itself with odd conditions to host various events. Conditions that exist in a few cities and make Guimarães a place of excellence in the area of hosting, artistic creation and presentation of shows. In addition to the Vila Flor Cultural Centre there are now other equipment as the Platform for Arts and Creativity, the Candoso Creation Centre, the Black Box of Fábrica Asa and the existing Espaço Oficina. The renovated Couros’ Neighbourhood has also become a place several times elected to the enjoyment of artistic moments.
Guimarães
The place from the Portuguese nationality, its historical capital, Guimarães is nowadays a modern, creative and vibrant city. In recent years it has achieved remarkable notoriety, as a result of several developments, that have resulted in successful marks: it is enlisted as Cultural Heritage of Humanity, by UNESCO in 2001. In 2012 and 2013 the city received de denomination of European Capital of Culture and European City of Sports, respectively.
Following the bodywork developed before and during Guimarães 2012 - European Capital of Culture, the city is now going through a particularly important moment. It has established a strong cultural dynamism and has in place large infrastructure investment.
Guimarães has now important cultural venues that can host the most diverse events. This set of assets only exist in a few cities of this dimension and that make Guimarães a place of excellence in the field of reception, artistic creation and presentation of shows.
Besides Vila Flor Cultural Center the city has an impressive system, that works in complementarity - the International Art Center José de Guimarães, the Candoso Creation Center, the Black Box of Fábrica Asa and the Espaço Oficina. The urban intervention in the Praça de Couros also gave this place excellent conditions for the enjoyment of artistic moments.
