IAN is Ianina Khmelik, a Russian violinist, born and raised in Moscow. She moved to Portugal at the age of 15, on her own, with her violin, which has been with her since she was 4 years old. Her first tour with the Gnessin Virtuosos Orchestra, at the age of 8, took her all over the world. From an early age, it was clear that she had an innate talent for music. Today she is the first violinist of the Casa da Música’s orchestra, in Porto. Every week in the Sala Suggia, she performs excellent renditions of classic and contemporary music. But the rest of her musical life comes after the so-called classical music performances and scores. The IAN project evolved naturally within her career and is characterised by the fusion of pop, trip-hop and electronic elements, with a strong presence of classical instruments, such as acoustic piano and violin, fruits of her classical music experience.
