Artist Residencies Showcases

The showcases of the artist residencies are one of the major original moments of Westway, as they reveal to the public the outcome of a unique creative process originating in Guimarães. After a week at the Candoso Creation Center – a time and space for total freedom in creation – the moment arrives to discover the final result of this highly artistic and cultural intersection. It is an incredible experience that takes place within the festival, which has already led to lasting connections that resulted in ongoing projects. With an inexhaustible and distinguishing energy generated by Westway in the LAB aspect, the showcases of the artist residencies are always truly surprising.

NFNR (UA)
NFNR (UA)

NFNR is a Kyiv-based Ukrainian electronic artist renowned for crafting evocative, dreamlike sound worlds that transcend genre boundaries. Her music draws on original textures and fully self-synthesized elements, exploring new sonic “paints and colors” and bringing attention to overlooked timbres. Today, her sound blends atmospheric IDM and melodic techno with cinematic ambience and delicate, airy textures — resulting in a style that feels both fragile and forceful, intimate yet expansive. Performing since 2014, NFNR has appeared at showcases including ESNS, SHARPE, Focus Wales, Tallinn Music Week, BUSH, Poland Music Week, NEXT Fest, What’s Next In Music, as well as festivals Inne Brzmienia, Skaņu Mežs, Ars Electronica, UpToDate, A Love Supreme and others. She has participated in numerous collaborations, including the Ukrainian folk laboratory Mokosho, and worked with dancers, theatrical performers, Japanese traditional drummers, Taiwanese step dancers, Chinese throat singers, and pop and folk vocalists. NFNR also practices live improvisation with theatre groups and composes music for film and stage. Having performed in more than 20 countries, she has released music on Ukrainian and international labels including Corridor Audio, Iriy Records, WAAGE Records, Mystictrax, СИСТЕМА, Flaming Pines, and Cashmere Radio. Her recent EPs Fragility and Dreams explore the delicate balance of human existence. She also composed the score for Intercepted, a powerful documentary premiered at the 74th Berlinale, examining Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Sofia Leão is currently discovering herself and the world. Sofia is 18 years old and was only 13 when she recorded "Bailarina" with her father, Rodrigo Leão, for the first time on the album O Método. She studied classical piano and completed the 8th grade of the instrument. These studies and the piano are some of the tools she now uses in her debut album, Mar, but not the only ones.
