Closing out the 4th edition of the Westway Lab is the group, :Papercutz. The trio will perform their new album of original songs live, entitled “King Ruiner,” whose recordings were made in New York and Oporto over a two–year period. The group has been unveiling its new sound outside Portugal, at festivals from Asia to the United States and has shared the stage with Caribou, Blonde Redhead, Nicolas Jaar and even Four Tet. The new vocalist, Catarina Miranda, known for her work with Emmy Curl, is one of those behind the remake of the group, with her voice evoking pop harmonies and choral motifs not frequently found in Western expression. Polyrhythms and melodies played with analogic synthesizers, urban beats, ambient textures and tribal percussion are other elements that imbue this work, the successor to the album, “The Blur Between Us.”
